The Cities Program is designed for incoming first-year students with an interest in understanding how to plan, work in, and effect change in urban communities. Topics studied include community development, urban planning, urban culture, gentrification, urban renewal, and urban governance policy. Many students in the Cities Program continue to be involved with programs offered by the Center for Urban and Global Studies (CUGS) throughout their time at Trinity. CUGS programs include the Urban Studies major and minor, the Center’s summer study away trip in China and independent student research grants. Prospective students apply to the program through the Gateway Programs section of the Common App when applying to Trinity. Learn more about the program and curriculum.
Rocio Fernandez Gutierrez ‘22 was part of the Cities Program Gateway and studied away in the China Summer Program in her first year. Fernandez went on to double major in Urban Studies and Sociology, and in her senior year, used a CUGS research grant to conduct research for her thesis, focused on a comparative analysis of Pratt Street and Park Street in Hartford.
